Blazing Drummers

Here at LRB birthday central, we honor the philosophy that satire is neither pretty or politically correct. What better way to celebrate Mel Watts birthday and political incorrectness than to announce his brand new blockbuster movie release. We encourage members of the band to have diversity in their passion and we'll leave the comments to you. Besides sharing a birthday, Mel and one of his hollywood pals, Robert Downey Jr share a passion for the theater. They're proud to announce that their new release, Blazing Saddles Dos, the Return of Mongo will be one that you have to pay more than a quarter to see. They even went to the trouble of exhuming from the grave another one of their birthday buddies, Tony Perkins to reprise the role of Lili (combined with the role of his dead mother from Psycho). Happy Birthday to Mel Watts, always more than a pawn in the game of life!

Christmas in San Diego

The LRB "Christmas Choir" had the honor of performing at Carols by Candlelight last December 11/12. It was the 20th anniversary of the show produced by Wayne and Steve Vaus in San Diego, with all proceeds going to children's charities...this year Rady Children's Hospital. For those who may not know, the original Carols by Candlelight was created in Australia by a Melbourne radio announcer named Norman Banks. In December, 1937, he saw a woman singing Away in a Manger in her front room...her face glowing with candlelight. Wondering how many others spent Christmas alone, he had the idea to gather a large group of people to all sing Christmas carols together by candlelight. The first ever such event was held in Alexandra Gardens the following Christmas, 1938, and was attended by around 10,000 people. The show is an Australian tradition now, drawing upwards of 60,000 people on Christmas Eve in all the capital cities. LRB was joined by LeAnn Rimes, Bucky Covington, Jordan Pruitt, Anna Vaus, Buck Howdy, and a little-known Finnish group called The Beat Boys. Although we got a little damp in the courtyard on Saturday night, singing Silent Night outdoors with the audience holding candles is always a highlight of the evening. (the child in the photo is not Leanne's!...nor any of ours!!)

Toby Keith with LRB

Seems we've been sharing the stage with a lot of country artists in the past couple years. Toby invited us to join him for his annual fundraiser for Children's Charities in OK. After his set, he came to our dressing room and we put together a version of Reminiscing "Toby Style". Sorry...no tapes were rolling.
Besides sharing the stage in a rare public appearance together on the Ed Sullivan Show, they share a birthday, today, January 8th.

Little River meets Shortest River...named D

In Lincoln City, OR we played a casino there called the Chinook Winds.  Right next to our hotel was the D River...shortest river in the world at 120 feet.  For your next Trivial Pursuit party!

Country came to Vegas!

While he was in town performing for the annual Rodeo Championships, I got a chance to catch up with an old friend, Steve Holy.  Steve blew us away with a great vocal performance. The sweetheart of the rodeo between us is Penny Gilley, singer and songwriter from the famous Gilley clan.  Yeeha!
